The emblematic English Vanwall F1 racing cars team was created by the restless industrialist Tony Vandervell at the beginning of the years 50. Their first cars, the Thinwall Special, were modified Ferrari -of course British racing green painted- and afterwards cars of his own construction. In 1955 Vandervell undertakes a new project counting on the young engineer Colin Chapman and Frank Costin for the chassis and body design. Leo Kusmicki, motorist enginer from Norton provenience, was the responsible of designing the motor. Turned out in a stable and aerodynamic racing car with a powerful motor of 2,5 liters 4 cylinders in line with direct injection and 285 HP capable of beat with the better cars of the moment.
In 1956 Stirling Moss was able to score Vanwall's first major victory in the Silverstone International Trophy. Moss and the rest of the drivers team, as Mike Hawthorn, Tony Brooks, Harry Schell and Stuart Lewis-Evans between others, was beginning a promising stage for the brand with a machine to the forefront technological of his time, designed and manufactured in Great Britain.
In 1957, with a revised rear suspension and other improved parts, a glorious period for Vanwall started. At Aintree Moss took Vanwall's maiden Grand Prix victory, and the first for an all British entry for 34 years ago.
The Vanwall was a very good racing car. During the following year Vanwall reached the success, wining many Grand Prix and won the very first world constructor championship in 1958.
After a decade of hard work defending the English colors, the end of Vanwall Team was rushed due to health problems of Tony Vandervell, leaving the competition in his best moment of glory.
