| In 1977 Mirage GR8 comes to LeMans with the same turbocompressed engine V6 Renault as for the Renault Alpine A442. The French factory supplies them to increase its chances of success in LeMans. Moreover the modifications brought on Mirage GR8 to receive V6 are widely inspired by the 4 Alpine Renault A442 aligned on the starting grid.
During the preliminary practices, Mirages-Renault #10 and 11 set respectively the eleventh and twelfth times while Alpine Renault #9 of Jabouille / Bell takes pole position behind Porsche 935 #41 of Stommelen / Schurti.
Unfortunately Mirage Renault #11 of Michel Leclère and Sam Posey does not survive the 4th hour of racing and 58 laps. Posey, out of order to Mulsanne tries in vain to resolve injection problems. |
